If fairy-godmothers were real and mine magically appeared in front of me this evening and granted me three wishes, the first would, without a doubt be to teleport myself to the OPENFIELD house in New Zealand. I stumbled upon this marvellous abode last weekend during a pinterest binge and haven’t been able to get it out of my mind since, everything from the bubblegum hued couch, to the James Turrell-esque skylight to that epic bathtub situation. In the northern hemisphere, February drags out much like those password reset emails that never arrive, or the extended awkward moment when you accidentally like a 3 month old post on someone’s instagram.
To be honest, February just feels stuck in a never-ending loop of a dull haze where the air is thick with the quiet ache of waiting for spring. I am longing for sun, nature, crisp fresh air and to be surrounded by both natural beauty as well as warm and enchanting interiors. This to me feels like the ultimate luxury right now. I touched on the topic of my shifting perception of what I consider luxury last summer and my feeling towards these perceptions have only gotten stronger the last few months.

It feels like the world we currently live in moves at a heart-racingly, relentless pace that has become almost overwhelming. The constant digital stimulation combined with long working hours and the pressure to always be doing, delivering and achieving is leading to exhaustion and disconnection. Now more than ever, I am finding myself yearning for access to nature and weekend getaways or holidays to the countryside.
I fantasise about a slower and more mindful lifestyle where true luxury is not about owning more but about being more - being more present and more grounded. Wow that got real deep, real fast and I don’t want this to get too ranty because let’s face it it’s still February and that’s annoying enough. With that said I do hope that these images bring you a sense of inspiration and help to brighten up these last days of winter, I advise you to put on Country House by Blur whilst you look at them for maximum effect. Btw our country house in the Swedish woods is now open for bookings from April, so if you are longing for a getaway this one is currently conveniently cheaper than a return ticket to New Zealand.
